“I patch worked the history of the brand into one collection” Nicola Formichetti explained at the unveiling of the ‘Diesel Tribute ‘ capsule collection in the brands Covent Gardens branch a few days ago. Working as Artistic Director of Diesel since April of this year, masses of high profile styling experience as well as his previous role as Creative Director of Mugler, the inspiration and final outcome were both widely anticipated!
Shot entirely by iPhone, renowned British fashion photographer, Nick Knights skills and creative eye helped bring the models and their outfits to life. With a strong selection of shots, not to mention an eye-catching video campaign to run along side them, daring models – some with rebellious hair do’s, others covered in artistic tattoo designs – justified the denim on denim look confidently.
The meet and greet gave editors, photographers and fans the chance to view the collection exclusively, whilst also being graced with the presence of the man behind the art. Upon walking into the store, people were greeted and offered drinks before indulging in positive talks about the brand and new collection. As the DJ spun out a smooth set of sounds from the early 90’s, from left to right, there was always something exciting to look at.
From signature Diesel jeans and digitally printed t-shirts with social media style tags scrawled across to appliquéd stamps and printed badges inspired by previous Diesel pieces attached to bags, denim waistcoats and baseball caps, denim overload couldn’t have looked better! One piece that caught many eyes was the dark metal, keychain-like harness wrapped around a mannequin near the centre of the room giving a slightly raunchy feel. Even down to the last high top Diesel sneaker, or pair of male underwear, the theme was consistent and engaging for both viewer and wearer. There is certainly more to look forward to as he prepares for the upcoming Milan shows in March of next year! Watch this space!
