Inspiration can come from a variety of different sources. Some can be quite interesting yet more common such as pop culture while others can be unconventional and in many ways exciting such as the porn industry. The cheeky Scottish blogger behind My Portis Wasp Says seems to have found the perfect balance between these two and has in fact turned his blog into a hive of creativity full of interviews featuring anyone from Ellie Goulding and Darren Black to Francois Sagat and Susie Lau. Eager to find out more about him as well as his work, we decided to offer him the opportunity to get interviewed for a change. Here is what went down.
One look at your blog is enough to tell us that conducting interviews is your favourite thing to do. How does it feel being on the other side for a change?
Oh really? I thought my favourite thing to do was play Table Tennis to an audience of 4 to 6 people? That’s weird. But yes I do love a good interview and being on the other side for a change is actually kind of great. Someone else has to edit and format the words for once – and it’s not me! Or is it? We totally didn’t discuss this, Yannis!
You also seem to be very infatuated with Pop Culture. Could you name your top three reasons why?
You’ve been watching me from a distance for a while now, haven’t you? You know I can see you, behind the Hydrangea’s, watching me between the hours of 7 and 9 every night smoking in my garden, naked. As we both know, I have a permanent semi for all things pop culture – and thank you for not sharing it on instagram. But it’s one of those things I can’t quite put my finger on. Three reasons why? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, TRL and Britney Spears would be a very good place to start.
The list of people you have interviewed so far is quite impressive. What has been your favourite up till now and why?
Thank you. My favourite interview is actually the one that blew away. I flew out to LA earlier this year and interviewed Bowie in a hot air balloon. Only, our interview, which included plenty of exclusive chat about David’s new record, Tilda Swinton and our shared love of Labyrinth, was unexpectedly cut short when a bird flew into our balloon, just as Bowie was away to tell me how he likes his eggs in the morning, would you believe, and caused us to, I dunno, lose some air or something, and crash into one of Matthew Terry’s Calvin Klein Concept Billboards. David lost his footing and nearly fell out of the balloon, which would have been a problem, so out of necessity grabbed a hold of my beard, which did save his life but also made me bite my tongue and drop my dictaphone! Amazingly it didn’t break when it hit the ground but then a Starline tour bus ran over it. I couldn’t believe it. Still, if that experience came with an Instagram filter it would be ‘Valencia’. We still laugh about it to this day and occasionally send each other pictures of sad looking balloons on Snapchat.
Anyone in particular playing tough to get for your 5 questions?
Oh my god yes! But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Mr Luke Evans has been playing very hard to get on Twitter. Terry Richardson doesn’t know I exist… yet. And Formichetti won’t return my calls. Although he is now following me on Twitter so he can most certainly expect a cheeky little dm from me any day now.
Regarding their answers. What has been the most unexpected/funny/awkward so far?
Unexpected – Rankin revealing that his favourite pie is ‘chicken and mushroom’. I totally had him pegged as a staunch ‘scotch pie’ advocate.
Funny – Domenico Dolce revealing that ‘FILM NOT MAKE ME CRY’, when I asked him what was the last film that made him cry? Has he not seen My Sister’s Keeper?!
Awkward – Jack Mackenroth, of Project Runway fame, asking me how often I masturbate? He’s so naughty!
Going down the list, I can spot a few porn stars in there such as Francois Sagat and Colby Keller. What motivated you to interview them in first place and in what ways have their answers changed your perspective about the porn industry?
I just wanted to show a different side to these men. I never saw them as one-dimensional characters so my intention has always been to focus less on their work in porn and more on their lives outside of the industry. I can’t say I’ve ever really had an opinion on the porn industry; it just is what it is. But I do have a lot of time for the porn stars I have interviewed – lovely guys!
Ok, let’s talk hair. You are a proud member of the beard appreciation society. A trend which seems to have taken the fashion industry by storm judging from the success of models such as Ricki Hall and most recently Declan-John Geraghty. What makes them so popular in your opinion?
I don’t have a bloody clue to be honest! But if it works for you, don’t question it. I think we are all in agreement that a Beard has worked wonders for both Ricki and Declan-John.
What should we expect from you in the near future?
Booking the Cover of Chasseur Magazine, obviously.
