To many of us, the Eagles were that American rock band from the Seventies, whose music resurfaces from time to time at oddball karaoke bars. To the Berlin-based designer Dennis Kwasny however, the Eagles have been a source of inspiration for his new collection. Influenced by the twisted and melancholic lyrics of ‘Hotel California’- one of the band’s most celebrated tracks – Kwasny’s collection is nothing short of remarkable. The recent Lette Verein Berlin graduate, succeeds in encapsulating the narrative of the song with his use of colour. Onyx black marries with flecks of gold to visually illustrate the protagonist, who finds something damning, in what he once thought was beautiful. Just like ‘Hotel California’, the collection has an ardent sense of eroticism. Featuring a skin-tight, high-necked crop top, and a maxi skirt with a central translucent panel: the alluring line ‘Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way’ comes to mind. Kwasny’s fascination with old rock bands, who had a penchant for the occult, definitely brings a profound element to his work. Welcome to the Hotel California indeed.
