When exactly was it that urbanism infiltrated into luxury fashion? Something to do with those pesky rappers, one would imagine. Les Benjamins strikes a chord with contemporaneity, offering very wearable pieces, suitably graphic and cool; yet there is some depth intended in the designs. The brand itself was created almost in homage to Les Jeunes Turcs (The Young Turks), a group of young intellectuals that favoured reformation of the Ottoman Empire and believed in union and progress. Supposedly this spirit and attitude is embodied by the collections. Like that AW14 sweater that features a print of a balaclava-clad Steve Jobs which hints, avertedly or not, at the idea that he was a robber of sorts? Perhaps. Much of the collection is fairly easy but nevertheless very (typically) cool – the camo is fantastic. And that commercial coolness is what will lead the label to continued success.
