Intelligent design gurus You Must Create do not follow the dictats of seasonal trends, rather they adhere to their own philosophy of creating functional, intelligent designs. A respected label within industry ranks, however under the radar they fly, YMC are significant as one the prime exponents of a highly British form of modernism in clothes design. Like fellow British modernist Margaret Howell, with her Left Bank geek chic for AW13, YMC also looked to the streets of Paris for inspiration, in this case drawing from the heritage of the workman’s wear of the Parisian back streets and in keeping with YMC’s penchant for British heritage and industry created a seamless fusion of the styles of two cities.
YMC showed for AW13 a stylishly wearable collection combining their authentic style with edgy urban influences; cropped cyclist style trousers, tartans in shades of blue and green, cool knitwear with funky patterns such as a black and pink argyle, carcoats and overcoats with oversized pockets (outerwear was particularly strong), fisherman knits and jackets and multi-zippered boiler suits, topped off with slick accessories that included louche berets, backpacks with exaggerated zips, and statement socks and shoes such as pink creepers!
