Layers and structured tailoring were the key ingredients behind Matthew Miller’s successful autumn/winter 2014 collection which was presented earlier today at London Collections Men. Known for his ability to turn casual pieces such as knitwear and leather jackets into high-end staples, Matthew Miller did not disappoint again this year with the new offering showcasing a brilliantly executed sartorial aesthetic while retaining its sportswear edge. The choice of a monochrome colour palette mainly composed of black, dark blue, mint green and crème white only added to the overall effect. It was never about colour though with Matthew Miller, whose focus has always been on the little details that make each piece. A good example would be some of the introduced tailored trousers and their matching tops, which featured many different layers of fabric, giving the impression of a huge collage which seemed abstract at first but a second look would reveal an almost architectural form. Other details included carefully placed cuts and the extensive use of wool textures.
