Arguably the most important man in design to come out of Stoke-On-Trent since Josiah Wedgewood, Matthew Miller presented his strongest collection to date at London Collections: MEN SS15. While staying true to his personal ‘rebellious manifesto’, (a Miller show is never just about the clothes, but also a message of social conscience) he also showed a newer maturity. Miller moved away from his near futuristic, dystopian utilitarianism of past seasons, and looked back; into the storied heritage of British menswear, presenting sharp de-constructed tailoring and precise selvedge denim, in a re-imagining of demob outfits first produced during World War II. Miller’s three piece suits are not your Savile Row offerings, these are an ingenious mash up, where the traditional British suit goes ironically (or not) punk, and is intended to make the wearer ” look like walking battleships, especially when wearing the graphic pinstripe camouflage”. A stellar collection from Miller, a man with depth far beyond his years.
