A new exhibition is now running in Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, dedicated to the work of Ren Hang, one of the most influential Chinese artists of his generation. Hang took his own life in 2017 after suffering from cyclical depression but his unique imagery still continues to inspire the world in many ways. A few years back, we were lucky enough to secure an exclusive interview with the artist himself where we talked about the intricate nature of his work and all the hardships he had to overcome (his art was censored or blocked while he was also arrested in China), in order to finally break free from the limits imposed to him by his country. You can read the interview HERE.
The exhibition ‘LOVE, REN HANG’ takes over the entire second floor of MEP and features a wide selection of 150 photographs that brilliantly capture everything from portraits of his mother to dreamy landscapes and naked bodies in beautiful and unconventional poses.
Duration : March 6 – May 26 2019
