STRATEAS CARLUCCI presents his new offering for Spring/Summer 2019 which features an exploration of static gender roles. Drawn to the idea of peeking behind common stereotypes, STRATEAS CARLUCCI investigates the work of French photographer, writer, and political activist Claude Cahun – born Lucy Renee Mathilde Schwob in 1894. Cahun was forward thinking of her work and constantly challenged gender roles in society, which of the time, were more defined and rigid. Playing closely to the concept of gender ambiguity in Cahun’s work, STRATEAS CARLUCCI reinterpret these gender roles in their own unique way, by looking at wardrobe staples and what is perceived as Masculine and Feminine and subtly merging the two. In the masculine tailored forms, soft feminine details are introduced in fabrication and take form in a more tongue in cheek manner, through manipulating garments in the bust area to create wrap bustier looking adaptations.
